Assay Services Scientist I/II

Operating Unit: Assay Services
Reports To: Director of Assay Services

 

SUMMARY: The Assay Services Scientist I / II works primarily with cell culture-based bioassays, executing antiviral bioassays, ELISAs and other highly sensitive immunoassays for characterizing proteins and reagents; analyzing data and drafting client reports; and developing new and custom assays to support the growth of the Assay Services Group.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute immunoassays on ELISA, and other highly sensitive platforms like Electrochemiluminescence (MSD), Single Molecule Array (Simoa), and Single Molecule Counting (Erenna)
  • Execute antiviral and antiproliferative cell-based bioassays
  • Analyze data and write client reports
  • Develop custom assays and reagents
  • Perform additional duties and/or other projects as required or assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences with 1+ year’s laboratory experience required (excluding academic internships)
  • Hands-on experience with ELISA, MSD, Simoa, Erenna, and/or cell-based assay development in an industrial setting preferred
  • Strong understanding of tissue culture, cell-based and immunology-related assays and assay development
  • Hands-on involvement in mammalian and/or bacterial cell culture and assay execution
  • Experience with Fluorescence Assisted Cell Sorting (FACS)
  • Demonstrated knowledge in practical and theoretical aspects of assays including assay design, optimization, troubleshooting, and data interpretation particularly as applied to biomarkers and biologics
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills and the ability to execute multiple simultaneous projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be highly attentive to detail and well organized
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude, and ability to work independently

Laboratory Technician

Division: Manufacturing
Reports To: Director, Manufacturing

 

SUMMARY: The Laboratory Technician is responsible for product manufacturing and ELISA kit optimization and stability testing following established guidelines and procedures and completing required documentation. The individual will routinely analyze raw data and generate summaries of work performed in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

 

The Laboratory Technician will make judgements based on knowledge and expertise as to the accuracy and reliability of analytical results; identify and report problems with results to supervisor; participate in investigations and data analyses; and troubleshoot instruments and methods.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.   • Coat plates and run ELISA assays in an accurate, efficient and timely manner
  • Operate manufacturing equipment
  • Prepare buffers; formulate proteins and dispense into vials
  • Assist in product transfer process from Product Development to Manufacturing (including pilot testing, preparation of documentation, supply planning, and report generation)
  • Perform intra-departmental quality control work
  • Share product assembly, packaging, and shipping duties

  • 3+ years’ experience with ELISAs is preferred
  • Must be highly attentive to detail and well organized
  • Ability to execute multiple simultaneous projects and effectively interpret data required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong work ethic and a positive attitude are required

Marketing Support Associate

Operating Unit: Marketing
Reports To: Senior Product Manager & Technical Support Scientist

 

SUMMARY: Assist in the coordination and implementation of marketing activities with a focused effort on product marketing and management. Provide support for marketing initiatives to further company goals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute tactical implementation of initiatives to develop potential customer base and to generate awareness of existing and new PBL products and services
  • Collaborate in the development of marketing content to promote product and service offerings (e.g. copy writing, eNewsletters, flyers/brochures, etc.
  • Perform marketing elements of product launches including digital marketing efforts
  • Maintain website as a customer-facing outlet outfitted with key data and information
  • Establish and maintain regular communication with key customers and distribution partners providing support, information and materials as necessary
  • Respond to incoming requests for customer assistance in a timely manner
  • Maintain product database and segmented price lists for distribution partnerships
  • Provide market research to support business decisions and marketing initiatives as needed; Assist with evaluating ROI of marketing activities
  • Work with internal parties to improve usage of CRM database
  • Provide order processing backup for Customer Service Associate as necessary

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 4-year degree with at least 1 year of experience in marketing (preferably with a life science organization
  • Interest in product management and product marketing, and a basic understanding of digital marketing concepts

  • Proficient computer skills and proven experience with Microsoft Office Suite

Quality Control Scientist I

Operating Unit: Quality Control
Reports To: Quality Director

 

SUMMARY: To ensure the quality of PBL reagents the Quality Control (QC) Scientist I will perform release and stability testing of interferons, antibodies, and manufactured ELISA kits. In addition, the QC Scientist I will perform bioassays or immunoassays to troubleshoot relevant customer issues and design and initiate experiments and projects to improve the quality of PBL products. The QC Scientist I may also serve as back up to the Product Development, Assay Services, or Manufacturing departments as needed: such additional duties may include designing and performing ELISA testing protocols, custom bioassays, and solution preparation. This individual will be involved with document control, SOP writing, and recordkeeping.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform bioassay testing, ELISA testing, and basic protein characterization to ensure product performance criteria are met before official lot release
  • Assist with troubleshooting investigations and execution of appropriate corrective or preventative actions
  • Contribute towards addressing technical questions or complaints from customers about product use or performance
  • Complete QC verification checks of final product assembly
  • Screen serum for internal assay applications, cell lines for mycoplasma, and bioassay reagents for endotoxin levels
  • Implement accelerated and real-time stability testing on products
  • Author or revise existing controlled documents and complete periodic reviews of SOPs
  • Review and ensure integrity of data reports from Assay Services before release to customers
  • Maintain electronic lab notebook and submit complete and accurate records according to SOPs
  • Develop and implement new QC procedures as directed by supervisor
  • Perform additional duties and/or other projects as required or assigned

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Carry out routine preventative maintenance or performance checks on laboratory equipment such as plate washers and plate readers
  • Compile and present data in group meetings
  • Assist Product Development, Assay Services, or Manufacturing departments as needed
  • Assist Marketing department with generating or reviewing customer-related documentation
  • Perform additional short-term and long-term projects based on professional interest and requirements of the company, such as writing application notes and technical notes

R&D Scientist I/II/III

Division: Product Research & Development – Assay Services (PRaDAS)
Reports To: Assay Development Group Leader

 

SUMMARY: The R&D Scientist is responsible for the hands-on development of immunoassays, such as ELISAs and cell-based assays, for commercial production. This individual plans and executes design, development, and Manufacturing transfer of bioanalytical assays for product commercialization. The R&D Scientist is also responsible for development of custom assays and reagents for clients.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops immunoassays and cell-based assays for commercial markets
  • Executes assay performance verification in multiple biological matrices from normal and diseased organisms
  • Ensures robustness and ruggedness of assay performance to facilitate ease of large-scale manufacture
  • Develops and screens new tools and reagents, such as purification of antibodies for assay suitability
  • Assists in the transfer and troubleshooting of assays developed within PRaDAS to the Manufacturing department
  • Performs additional duties and/or other projects as required or assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None

REQUIREMENTS:

  • R&D Scientist I: M.S. with 0-2+ years or B.S. with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • R&D Scientist II: PhD with 0-2+ years or M.S. with 1-3+ years or B.S. with 4+ years of relevant experience
  • R&D Scientist III: PhD with 3+ years or M.S. with 5+ years or B.S. with 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Direct experience in commercial industrial setting preferred
  • Experience with multiple immunoassay and cell-based assay formats preferred
  • Ability to execute pipeline projects and effectively interpret, summarize, and report data to R&D management
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills necessary

Senior Protein Scientist

Division: Product Research & Development - Assay Services (PRaDAS)
Reports To: Director, Product Development

 

SUMMARY: The Senior Scientist develops and executes purification schemes for new product candidates, develops analytical methods for protein characterization, and enhances current purification procedures with the goal of increasing yield, purity and activity. The Senior Scientist is also responsible for development of custom reagents and assays for clients.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Expression, purification, and characterization of recombinant proteins from mammalian and bacterial cell sources
  • Develops new reagents, such as antibodies or purified proteins, for immunoassay use
  • Develops and implements new assay methods and technologies for protein characterization
  • Facilitates the transfer and troubleshooting of new products to the Manufacturing department
  • Applies scientific knowledge to troubleshoot issues encountered during development of novel protein targets
  • Optimizes current procedures through introduction of new methods or enhancement of current methods
  • Develops and trains junior staff
  • Perform additional duties and/or other projects as required or assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 0 - 1 Protein Scientist

REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. degree in biological sciences; advanced degree preferred
  • 1-4+ years of hands-on involvement and expertise in protein purification and characterization
  • Working knowledge and practical experience with AKTA systems or other FPLC
  • Ability to execute and direct multiple efforts; some supervisory and training experience
  • Excellent skills in experimental design, data management, interpretation, and presentation
