Recombinant human FGF-7, expressed in engineered human cells, is a member of Fibroblast Growth Factor family. FGF-7 was initially found in conditioned medium of a cell line established from human embryonic lung fibroblasts. This factor is secreted by human embryonic fibroblasts and in large amounts by fibroblast-like stromal cells in epithelial tissues. It plays an important role in tissue repair subsequent skin injuries. FGF-7 is important in the growth control of normal epithelial cells and stimulates the proliferation of primary and secondary human keratinocytes.
